Why have nasa never been back to the moon?

just curious.... :L also, just seen the trailer for appollo 18 ^ ^|||It always strikes me as odd, when the bulk of the population suggests that we spend too much money on NASA, and then ask why the most expensive part of the NASA budget, per launch (Human Spaceflight) doesn't go foreward fast enough.

The Apollo Program was cancelled during the Nixon Adminstration. The 'replacement' for human spacflight was the Shuttle Program. A reusable spacecraft for low Earth Orbit missions. Production for Moon-faring technology ceased. Private companies who designed and built Apollo technology converted their facilities to build parts for something that someone was going to use. The cost to rebuild this technology is not, at the moment, reasonable in the eyes of Congress. If you want taxes levied for a manned Moon mission, write to Congress. Keep in mind, robotic missions are nearly as effective as manned missions these days, with a much lower cost, and a much lower risk to human life.|||Congress cut the Apollo lunar landing program off after Apollo 17 to save money. The planned Apollo 18, 19, and 20 never flew. The movie is pure fiction.

The reason there has never been another manned lunar mission is that it is still too expensive and dangerous while having no clear and definite benefit or profit for humanity. Do not be fooled into thinking better technology today should make it cheaper and safer. Only computer technology today is better; rocket technology has not progressed much at all.|||%26lt;QUOTE%26gt;why have nasa never been back to the moon?%26lt;/QUOTE%26gt;

NASA does more than just putting people in orbit.

Who's paying for it?

So, do you know the difference between a MOVIE and a DOCUMENTARY or not?|||They've been back to the Moon many times: five more manned expeditions after Apollo 11, and many unmanned missions including the current Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. No further manned expeditions have been made since 1972 because of the expense and the danger.|||It costs Billions of Dollars to send men to the Moon and since we've done it 6 times already it would be kind of pointless to send more men there.

The next mission is to get a Man onto Mars :)

DuffyEdge|||Um...NASA itself never went to the moon. Only NASA's equipment and a few of its personnel have been to the moon. And FYI, they have "been back", FIVE TIMES after Apollo 11.|||The moon is crawling with aliens and NASA were warned off.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZL90osTy鈥?/a>|||It costs billions of dollars and the only benefit is that two people get to run around on the moon for a few hours and collect some rocks.|||I'm thinking it's a money issue. Since they've already made a trip there they probably want to use whatever funds they have for unexplored territory.|||NASA is already denied money by the government and a moon visit could cause billions of dollars|||If NASA went to the moon 600 times, would you be asking this question? HOW MANY TIMES IS ENOUGH?!?!????

We didn't land on the moon only ONCE!!!!!!|||Simple answer. Cash.
