Had to ask the question around historical evidence for Jesus.?

Someone said to me on here that no historical doesnt think that Jesus existed.

Right,

Now there are no historical records or Archeological discoveries on earth today that mention Jesus outside of the Gospels.

None, nada nope. Please find me one.

There were lots of historians around Jesus time and no one made mention of him.

3 do menion Christ but that is all and that doesnt mean anything as there were lots of people claiming to be Christ.

Josephus well apart from the fact that it has been proven to be fake undreds of years ago he also mentions the God Appollo so his credibility is shot.

So please anyone have any evidence.

And dont mention old testement prophesy because you will shoot yourslef in the foot.

Its clear that the Jesus person was fabricated around some old testement nonsense, hence we have other made up fables like the census, nativity etc etc.

So please send or post any evidence you have.|||good luck getting an answer.|||You need to develop some interests, maybe a hobby and maybe go out and do some good by helping others.

This ugliness is pitiful. You sit at your keyboard and anonymously criticize the faith of others.

How sad for you.|||Again.... there is more evidence for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ than for any other personal events in ancient history.|||There's no evidence to believe Jesus ever existed. There, I've said it. Bring on the angry villagers with pitchforks.|||Someone died on that cross back then and I don't think it was an actor.|||Bear in mind that the events of Jesus life were not even considered important until after he died. It makes sense that almost no one wrote about Him during His life as the events themselves weren't that "huge". Yes, there were some large gatherings of Jews because of Him but the Jews were normally gathering in large groups to make trouble for the Romans at the time.

The people who wrote the gospels it would seem had to know Jesus or knew someone who knew Jesus (people do debate however if it was actually the people given credit of writing the text; you decide). If you read the gospels, the men who wrote them were honest to the point it hurt their reputation. People who say that the story is a legend aren't thinking.

For a legend to start two things are needed:

1. Isolation

2. Time (At least one or two generations)

Jesus and His disciples were surrounded by people (millions of people in Jeruselem at passover time). Plus Israel was in the crossroads of the Roman Empire at the time. If these men were telling a lie then facts would have been disputed and their "religion" would have been shut down very quickly by other people. The men who wrote the Bible CHALLENGED people in some very high positions. Remember history would tell us that the people didn't so much disagree with the apostles more that they only attempted to silence them.

If it is hard evidence you want there are over 3000 ancient manuscripts of the gospels and over 24,000 of the whole Bible (Scholars use these to cross-check accuracy with the Bible that people read today). Scholars have found that the gospels are 99.5% textually accurate and the .5% that is "wrong" is actually added text not information that has been taken away. The reason for this is that while the text was being copied the men doing the copying actually added notes in the margins (like a footnote) and it eventually was inserted into the actual text. Also bear in mind that by the 2nd century (100-200 A.D.) the whole NT had been quoted in other people's work except for eleven verses. By the year 250 it was possible to not even have an actual NT document, yet be able to recreate the whole work.

The "John Ryland Fragment" is a part of the gospel of John shown to be written 25 years after Christ's death. This shows that the gospel(s) was a first century document and that the people who knew Jesus were still around to write about His life. 9 different writers wrote the 27 books of the NT (according to scholars). They all agree on essentials but each focuses on certain details (Ex. Jesus’ ministry, His miracles, and His persecution). Remember this: all the disciples were martyred for what they believed except John who died in exile.|||Actually, I said, "serious historian". There are indeed some questionable sources. There are also reliable ones. You can look for yourself and weigh the evidence. The are listed in "The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict" and "He Walked Among Us: Evidence for the Historical Jesus".
